Background on Partner Phyllis Carlyle

Executive Director Connie Swartz was introduced to Phyllis Carlyle as someone with extensive sewing and design knowledge. Previous professional practice as a designer and patternmaker provided the needed apparel production experience, while many years sewing for self and others gave her the proficiency to design accessories.  Phyllis introduced cutting instead of ripping the garments apart, figured out how to design around the pockets in place, and other details to create quality products more efficiently.

Phyllis recently retired from a second career in marketing communication and graphic design, which has been advantageous for helping to build and market Celebrate Fatigues. “I love the idea that these garments worn in service to our country will live a second useful life instead of being discarded,” said Phyllis. “I’ve enjoyed using my apparel production and graphic design skills to help Connie launch her nonprofit business.”
